We have put everything we have learned during the last 17 years of alloy frame design and manufacture into this completely new and very advanced scandium alloy road bike frame. Carbon was just entering the fray but you could certainly still find nice modern steel bikes titanium magnesium aluminum and something called scandium which is an alloy using both aluminum and scandium. Back in the early 2000s there was quite a choice of materials for frames on the market. When the ussr fell a canadian company named ashurst technology which has since died bought the knowledge and infrastructure for scandium usage from their ukrainian partners then licensed it off to easton sports easton manufacturer of aluminum bike frame tubes began using the technology to make lighter stronger tube sets than anyone else on the market.

In practical use the different alloys will be indistinguishable though 7005 is slightly cheaper to work with as it requires less overall processing. Some manufacturers of bikes make frames out of aluminum alloys containing scandium usually referred to simply as scandium for marketing purposes although the sc content is less than 0 5. I have two mountain bikes with scandium frames and they are substantially lighter and more expensive than my aluminum framed bikes. Scandium is essentially a lighter variation of aluminum alloy more expensive material to produce and work with.
